5 Tips To Crush Your Goals This Year

The holiday festivities are finally behind us and the New Year has just begun! Think of this year as a book with fresh, unwritten pages. There are endless possibilities in front of you and you get to write the story, chapter by chapter. The question is, how are you going to write it?

Chances are, you’ve already put some thought into what you want to accomplish in 2022, and those goals, whether you reach them or not, are going to play a large role in how your story plays out. Whether your goals are health-focused, finance-driven, or something else entirely, we want to help you reach them by sharing a few of our favorite tips.

1. Choose Goals You Really Want

We know this may sound like common sense, but it can be easier said than done. With so many trends coming and going, it can be easy to fall into the trap of setting goals that you aren’t fully invested in. Instead of jumping on the newest trend or setting goals that will change how others see you, make sure your goals are for you. When you set a goal that speaks to you on a personal level, you will likely find yourself even more determined to reach them.

2. Be Realistic

We’ve all heard the saying “go big or go home,” but when it comes to goals, that isn’t necessarily the best approach. In fact, setting goals that are “too big” and unrealistic given your current circumstances may lead to a lack of motivation or an increased desire to give up early. This year, do yourself a favor and avoid biting off more than you can chew. Review your goals and compare them to your current situation. If you need to, take this opportunity to adjust them so they are more achievable.

3. Start with Small Steps

Many goals tend to be broad in nature, which can make it difficult to know where to start or how much progress you’ve made. If you find that your goals are a little vague, it can be beneficial to break them down into smaller steps. For example, if your goal is to exercise more this year, try starting with 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week. Once that becomes a habit, work up to 4 or 5 times a week or increase the length of each workout. This will break your goals down into bite-sized steps and give you small victories to celebrate along the way.

4. Be Kind to Yourself

No matter what your goals are, the road to achieving them can be long and challenging, and chances are you will have a few slip-ups along the way. When that happens, don’t get discouraged. Remind yourself that success isn’t about perfection, it’s about consistently giving your best effort, so pick yourself back up, learn from your mistakes, and step back on the right path.

5. Have an Accountability System

Staying dedicated to reaching your goals is often easier with some friends to help you along the way. After all, most of us struggle with holding ourselves accountable, and we all need a little extra motivation from time to time. Find a few friends or an online community whose goals are similar to yours and help keep each other on track.
