It’s Spring, Let’s do Stuff.

Little pieces of green grass have begun to poke through the soil, the days are getting longer and the morning frost is getting, well, a little less frosty. Spring is nearing and Mother Earth is doing her thing, breathing life back into this world. We can see it in the changes in the environment and we can feel it in our energy; it’s time to renew.

We can’t help it, we are human and an intricate part of the environment. As the seasons change, so do we. Spring tends to Brighten the mood, energize the body and kick in the urge to work on that next project (which typically includes some spring cleaning). And, we have longer days and more sunlight to thank for this mood and energy boost. The increase in sunlight influences melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating our circadian rhythm which then influences other hormones in the body and typically results in an improved mood.

We certainly have Mother Nature to thank for this outward sense of renewal but what about inside?

While Mother Nature is doing her job of renewing the world around us, it’s important to take some time to look within and help renew your internal ecosystem. It all starts with what you put in your mouth. Coming off of winter and comfort foods, spring is the perfect season to eliminate or reduce the junk and turn to light, fresh meals that are loaded with colorful fruits and vegetables.   • Let It Go. Like the famous song in DisnEy’s hit movie Frozen, let it go. Spring is the perfect season to renew and reset your mind. Let those negative thoughts go, they are not serving you.   • Nourish your body. Goodbye comfort foods, and hello fresh whole foods. As we move into spring we will see an increase in the availability of fresh local produce. Cruise your local farmers market to take advantage of nourishing seasonal produce.
  • Exercise outdoors. Spring naturally urges us to increase our physical activity. The snow has melted (or will be soon), the hiking trails are safe and the bike paths are clear. Get outside, move your body and enjoy some fresh air. Better yet, start tilling that soil and preparing your garden because it’s almost time to plant your crops for the year.
