The Power of Green

With St. Patrick’s day around the corner we are officially in a green mindset, especially when it comes to our food. Green foods are an extremely important part of a healthy diet. In fact, green foods, including algae and leafy vegetables, have been a staple in the human diet since the beginning.

These powerful greens are filled with a variety of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. In fact, our green foods provide us with chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants that is essential for the process of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is also an excellent source of antioxidants, substances that fight damaging free-radicals, and has many beneficial nutritional properties. This amazing pigment ultimately helps allow the body to function at an optimal level.

Today there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to adding green to your diet. Here at New Earth, our favorite is our very own organic Wild Microalgae®, also known as Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA).

This near perfect food contains all 20 standard amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, phenylethylamine (PEA), and antioxidant pigments phycocyanin and chlorophyll. In addition, AFA contains an ideal balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, complex sugars and fiber. In our book, it’s a great addition to any diet!

What’s more, we have the perfect green smoothie recipe to kick off your St. Patrick’s day, and any other day. Loaded with greens and nutrients it is sure to help you kick start your day. All you have to do is throw these ingredients in a blender, give it whirl and enjoy!
