5 Easy Ways to Stay Active and Healthy During Quarantine

Stay home, don’t get closer than six feet, don’t touch your face, wash your hands… We’ve all heard this repeatedly over the last several weeks. We are living through an uncertain and odd time. Social distancing and quarantine have become the new normal and people are starting to go stir crazy. For most, our lives have been turned upside down. That coffee shop that we used to meet our friends at is closed or takeout only, that gym that we went to daily had to shut its doors, those friends we used to hang out with on the regular, we can’t see them either… and the list goes on.

While social distancing and self-isolating are a necessity during this pandemic, so is keeping up your mental and physical health. So, what can we do to stay sane and healthy during this crazy time? Glad you asked! Here are five techniques to maintain your sanity and health throughout this quarantine.

Get some much needed fresh air. We have been asked to stay home, not inside. Make it a priority to get outside and breathe in some fresh air and soak up some Vitamin D every day, just avoid groups of people. Need a good excuse? We have a few. That furry friend of yours would really like to go on a walk. Oh, and your garden, it’s time to start prepping it and planting those seeds. And then there’s food, it turns out we still need to eat during this quarantine…so why not enjoy a healthy meal outside? Whatever you do, make a point to spend time outside every day.

Support your immune system. When your immune system is strong and healthy, so are you. Which in turn allows us to do the things we love, enjoy life, and worry less. With 70% of the immune system residing in the gut, supporting your immune system starts with the foods you eat. So stick to whole foods that nourish your body and gut. And then, of course, you can boost your body’s defense with superfoods like medicinal mushrooms and organic Wild Microalgae® that feed your immune system. Defend is a uniquely designed blend of 6 mushroom species used as a functional food supplement to help you maximize your body’s natural immune response.*

Get your body moving. The gym is closed, we know. Like you, we are missing our favorite equipment and classes. But the good news is, just because the gym is closed doesn’t mean you can’t work out. It may not be your first or ideal option but, there are plenty of ways to stay fit and workout from home. And you know what? It doesn’t have to cost you any money at all. Turn on some music and have a dance party (there’s your cardio), make up your own circuit workout or let the pros lead the way and check out some YouTube videos. If you are a fan of yoga, Fightmaster Yoga has some amazing free yoga flows. If you like a little more intensity Fitness Blender is free as well and has some fantastic circuit and HIIT workouts.

Get social. Yes, we are on quarantine which makes it a bit challenging to get social but, we have some pretty amazing tools at our fingertips that allow us to stay connected. Pick up that phone and make a phone call or start a group text. Get active on social media. Video chat with some friends or family using Zoom, FaceTime or the many other options. No matter what outlet you choose, make it a point to stay social and check in with your friends and family. We are social beings and need each other to thrive.

Establish a routine. Embrace your new temporary normal and get in the groove of a routine. We get it, you are now working, cooking, eating, sleeping, and exercising in your home. But for some, it’s not just you. It’s you, your spouse or partner, your children, and your pets. It might feel like chaos. Take the time to establish a routine and embrace your new normal. Don’t forget to factor in time to get some fresh air, prep your healthy food, move your body, and catch up with some friends, you will be glad you did.

Don’t let self-isolation and social distancing get you down, or drive you crazy, open the blinds, let the sun in and embrace this new temporary normal with some healthy daily habits!
