Mind Your Mental Health

May is a wonderful month! It brings warmer weather, blooming flowers, and the anticipation of summer activities that are right around the corner. Along with all of that, May is also the month dedicated to honoring the importance of mental health.

Your mental health is a vital part of your overall well-being and quality of life. It includes your emotional, psychological, and social well-being, impacting how you think, feel, and act. It also influences the decisions you make and how you relate to other people in your life. Like with physical health, your mental health is influenced by a number of different factors, such as the quality of your relationships and the amount of stress you experience from your day-to-day activities.

Here at New Earth, we understand the importance of taking care of your mental health, and we know that incorporating self-care activities into your daily routine can do wonders to help ease stress and keep your mind healthy. We know, the thought of practicing self-care may seem like just another time-consuming task to add to your to-do list, but we want to assure you that doesn’t have to be the case.

Here are some of our favorite, simple self-care practices that can help you maintain your mental wellness no matter how little time you have.

When you have 1 minute…

Say an affirmation! Affirmations are powerful self-care tools that are always at your disposal and take almost no time. They can help you acknowledge your strengths, face challenges with confidence, and keep your brain filled with “feel-good” hormones. In just a minute (or less) you can speak a few simple affirmations aloud to help strengthen your resolve, boost your confidence, and maintain your mental health.

When you have 5 minutes…

Turn on some music! Familiar songs are a great way to bring yourself comfort, calm your mind, and lift your mood. Turning on your favorite song and singing or dancing along can do wonders to help you relieve stress. Not much of a dancer? Try turning on some classical music instead, which has been found to have a calming effect on both the brain and body.

When you have 10 minutes…

Eat a healthy snack! Just like the rest of your body, your brain needs nutrients in order to function. This is why a quick, healthy snack can often help you feel better. Enjoying a slice of avocado toast or a hardboiled egg is a quick and easy way to improve your mood and help your brain function more effectively. Better yet, make a feel-good, brain-boosting smoothie using your favorite fruit and a few capsules of Mind. For an even better boost, try slowing down and being mindful about every bite you take, which can make your snack double as a meditative practice.

When you have 15 minutes…

Spend it outside! You have unlimited access to a natural stress reliever – all you have to do is step outside your door. The simple act of spending time outside can invigorate your mind, calm your soul, and boost your mood. Take time to walk around the block, stand in the shade and enjoy the breeze, or take your shoes off and feel the grass under your toes. Take 15 minutes to let your body enjoy the fresh air, soak up some vitamin D, and let your stress wash away.

When you have 20 minutes…

Call a loved one! A conversation with a friend or family member is wonderful for boosting your mental health. It allows you the opportunity to find comfort in connecting with those you love while also providing you with a new perspective on any issues you may be facing. When you have a spare 20 minutes, grab your phone and give someone you love a call. You’ll be amazed at how much even a short conversation can lift your spirits.

When you have 30 minutes…

Do a workout! Exercise of any kind can do wonders for both your body and mind. Even short spurts of low-impact activities can help improve your focus, release stress, and burn off any anxious energy you may be feeling. It doesn’t matter whether you choose to run on the treadmill or do a relaxing yoga routine – all that matters is that you’re moving your body.

With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, now is the perfect time to check in with yourself and find new ways to incorporate self-care practices into your daily routine. After all, taking care of your mental wellbeing is an important part of living the #NewEarthLife!
