Packing For A Gut-Healthy Vacation

The weather is warming up, kids are getting out of school, and many of us are gearing up to take a well-deserved vacation.

Taking a break from your normal routine to travel somewhere new is exciting and fun! Plus, it also comes with a variety of benefits for your health, such as helping to relieve stress, boosting your mental health, and even improving your creativity

However, if we’re being honest with ourselves, summer vacations also mean breaking away from our normal healthy routines and make us more likely to splurge on sugar and processed foods while we are away. Combine that with the shock to your system that comes with switching time zones (hello jet lag!) and there’s no doubt that traveling can take a toll on your body and throw your gut out of balance.

Don’t worry though, this doesn’t mean you have to choose between your vacation and your gut health. Instead, just make sure you pack the right items to support your gut while you’re away. That way, you can enjoy your trip without having to worry too much about your gut.

Not sure what gut-healthy items you should add to your packing list? Here’s what we recommend.

  1. Reusable Water Bottle

It can be easy to forgo water in favor of a sweet drink or adult beverage when you’re traveling. While a vacation definitely warrants allowing yourself to indulge in these items on occasion, it’s important to remember that your gut, and the rest of your body, need water as well. So no matter where you are going, be sure to throw in your favorite reusable water bottle, which will make it easier to remember to drink water throughout the day.

  1. Healthy Snacks

Whether you are traveling by car or plane, it’s always nice to have some snacks on hand to help you avoid grabbing an unhealthy option when you get hungry. Items like nuts, energy bars, fresh fruit and veggies with hummus dip are all great options for fueling your body and supporting your gut on the go.

  1. Tennis Shoes

While you should absolutely enjoy some relaxing downtime while you are on vacation, it’s also important to make sure you are moving your body every day. Packing a pair of comfortable tennis shoes means you’re prepared to keep your body moving by hitting the hotel gym, taking a bike tour, or going for an afternoon walk to help your gut stay in tip-top shape.

  1. An Eye Mask and Headphones

With things like jet lag, changes to your routine, and an unfamiliar environment that may or may not be noisy, many of us find it difficult to get a good night’s rest while traveling. However, missing out on a good night’s sleep can increase your body’s stress levels, which ultimately can impact your gut health. Packing a few items like an eye mask and headphones or earplugs can help improve your sleep. You may also consider taking your own pillow or blanket if you think it will help you sleep better.

  1. Probiotics and Enzymes

Of course, no gut-health packing list would be complete without gut-supporting supplements like probiotics and enzymes. Seeding your gut with good bacteria and helping your body efficiently digest all those delicious dishes you are going to try will do wonders to help keep you feeling your best while you are away. So whether you like to use Enzymes with Spectrabiotic or prefer the convenience of Essentials, make sure you throw enough in your bag to last you the whole trip. Trust us, your gut will thank you for it.

Living the #NewEarthLife is all about taking care of your whole body, including your gut, no matter where life takes you. So be sure to add these gut-friendly items to your packing list so you’re prepared to make the most out of your summer vacation!
