The Perfect Summer Smoothie

We are knee-deep in the heat of the summer! We all enjoy these beautiful summer days a little differently. Some of us prefer to soak up the sun by the pool while others would prefer to be out exploring all the wonders of the great outdoors. And still, others would rather get the grill out and spend time cooking up great food and enjoying the company of family and friends.

No matter which activities you prefer, there is one thing we can all agree on—a cold fruit smoothie is a perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. But with countless recipes available, it can be intimidating to try making your own smoothies at home. This year, we’re here to help with 5 tips to help you make the perfect summer smoothie.

1. Be Prepared

Oftentimes, making a smoothie can seem time-consuming. You have to wash, peel, and chop all your ingredients, blend them together, and wash everything afterward. To make things go more smoothly, do as much prep as you can ahead of time. You can chop ingredients in advance and then freeze them in portions that work for you. Then, whenever you want a smoothie, all you have to do is empty the bag, add a little liquid, and blend. In a matter of minutes, you’ll have the perfect smoothie with very little mess.

2. Think About Your Base

The best smoothies are built on a strong, liquid foundation. Before you start throwing ingredients into the blender, take time to consider what kind of liquid you plan to use. Water, milk, coconut water, nut milk, and fruit juice are all great options. When choosing, keep in mind the sugar content of the liquid as well as the fact that your choice may impact the final flavor of your smoothie.

3. Boost It With Superfoods

A simple and effective way to give your smoothie a nutritional boost is to add superfoods to the recipe. Since they’re loaded with a variety of vital nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy, any of the common superfoods like acai berries, blueberries, chia seeds, green tea, and organic Wild Microalgae® make perfect smoothie ingredients.

4. Add Supplements

While homemade smoothies are already full of whole food goodness, they could always benefit from the addition of natural supplements. Adding your favorite New Earth supplement to your smoothie recipe is an easy and delicious way to give your body a healthy dose of probiotics, enzymes, or antioxidants

5. Remember that Order Matters

Last, but certainly not least, keep in mind that order matters. The way you layer your smoothie ingredients can determine the overall texture of the final product. Generally, you’ll want to start with liquids. Then add powders and supplements followed by greens and other soft ingredients like yogurt. Finally, top it off with frozen fruits and ice before you blend and enjoy.

No matter what summer activities you plan to enjoy this year, sipping on a cold fruit smoothie will make the experience that much more enjoyable.
