Elevate Your Side Dishes with Algae

With a long holiday weekend nearly upon us, there’s no doubt most people are busy preparing for those end-of-summer backyard barbecues that are nearly synonymous with Labor Day Weekend. Whether you’re planning to host an event yourself or will be taking a side dish to your friends’ party, why not take it to the next level by using algae to give it a nutritional boost?

Not sure what kind of algae-infused dish you want to take to your end-of-summer celebration? Here are a couple of our favorites you can try. 

Vegan “Cheese” and Algae Dip

Inspired by a recipe shared by Iraide’s Cooking Lab, this delicious dip mixes nuts, seeds, and algae to create a delicious, vegan-friendly dip that is sure to delight. 

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sunflower seeds
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 ½ cups arugula
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tablespoon white miso
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 servings Wild Algae Blend
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Start by soaking the sunflower seeds in water for about 4 hours. Then add the sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast, and garlic to a food processor, blend thoroughly, and set aside. Use the food processor to mix the arugula, lemon juice, vinegar, white miso, water, and olive oil. Combine the two mixtures and blend again until you achieve your desired consistency. 

Algae Dipping Sauce

A simple and delicious dip for your favorite fruits! It pairs especially well with honeydew melon or watermelon. 

Ingredients

  • 1 serving Wild Algae Blend  
  • 4 tablespoons raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 

Directions

Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl. Serve immediately alongside the diced melon of your choice.
