We’re Harvesting For Your Health

Decades ago we made it our mission to help you support the health of both your body and mind by harvesting the world’s most powerful superfood—Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), or as we like to call it, organic Wild Microalgae®.

Since 1983, we have made it our business to harvest this amazing superfood in the most efficient and eco-friendly way possible, and we’ve perfected the process. Today, our harvesting processes allow us to collect and process this precious superfood in a way that ensures it retains as much of its nutritional value as possible.

The process of harvesting organic Wild Microalgae is a fine art, and the process we use today has been perfected through nearly 40 years of experience and the use of state-of-the-art equipment. If you’re wondering what this process looks like, here is a brief overview:

Our process starts with quality control analysis to make sure we are gathering the highest quality algae possible. During this initial quality control stage, our experts take samples of the algae directly from the lake and test them to confirm both strain and nutritional value. Once this step is complete, our fleet of 3 custom-built harvesters is put to work. These eco-friendly machines were designed and built by engineers who have been with us from the beginning, and they can efficiently remove algae from the lake without damaging its structural integrity.

Once the algae has been removed from the lake, the excess water that comes with it has to be removed in order to keep the algae from becoming diluted. Once it has been dewatered, the algae is cooled and preserved for transport via powerful machines that chill the water to 34 degrees Fahrenheit in about 30 seconds.

The chilled algae is then transferred to our production facility where it will be processed. Time is of the essence! Compared to our competition–our harvesting techniques allow us to go from lake to processing in a matter of hours. Upon arriving at production, the algae is processed through vibrating screens to remove large particles before being sent to the plate freezer where it will be frozen at negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The algae will be stored in these freezers until we are ready to dry it and use it to formulate your favorite supplements.

Every year, we celebrate the arrival of harvest season and look forward to finding new ways to improve our harvesting process to bring you the highest-quality products possible. If you’d like to learn more about our harvesting and manufacturing processes, you can find more information here
