Have a Spookily Healthy Halloween

We are only a few days away from Halloween! While you are busy finalizing your party plans or putting the final touches on your child’s costume, you may find yourself wondering how you can keep your family a little healthier during this sugar-filled holiday. Lucky for you, we are here to help. Here are a few of our favorite ways to have a healthy Halloween.

Start the Day Right

With most Halloween celebrations beginning in the evening, you have the whole day to support your body with healthy choices. Start your day with a healthy breakfast, sneak a workout in after lunch, and make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Your body will thank you for it when all the festivities begin later.

Don’t Skip Dinner

On a related note, be sure to eat a well-balanced dinner prior to heading out for your Halloween celebrations. Filling yourself and your family up with a nutritious dinner before leaving the house will help keep you from overindulging on all those sweet treats. If you are staying home to hand out candy, having dinner beforehand will help curb the temptations to snack while you wait for your doorbell to ring.

Stay On Your Feet

No matter what your plans look like, squeeze in a little extra exercise by staying on your feet. If you are taking the kids trick-or-treating, the best way to do this is to choose to walk around the neighborhood instead of driving them from door to door. If you plan to attend a spooktacular party, this may look like spending extra time on the dance floor or even socializing around a cocktail table instead of on the couch.

Collect Candy for a Cause

There’s no doubt that one of the biggest Halloween temptations comes from all the leftover candy that will be sitting in your kitchen for the next few weeks. One easy way to get rid of this temptation is to get rid of the candy completely. Yes, you can throw it in the trash, but you could also donate it to a good cause. There are a number of groups that collect leftover Halloween candy to distribute to troops overseas or children in need. Your local hospice, food bank, or mission may even collect candy this time of year. Donating allows you to get rid of all those extra sweets while also helping those in need. It’s a win-win really.

Enjoy Your Favorite Treats with a Twist

As an alternative to sugar-filled candy, you can always opt to make your own healthy Halloween treats. Of course, if you want to give your homemade treats a nutritional boost, you can always add our favorite secret ingredient – organic Wild Microalgae®. Stumped on how to incorporate your favorite superfood into your Halloween treats? Here are a few ideas (you can find a few of these recipes in this week’s blog!):

  1. Break open a capsule of Mind and sprinkle it onto apple slices and use peanut butter and sunflower seeds to make them into little green monsters.
  2. Add a few capsules of Body to your favorite smoothie. For extra Halloween fun, pour it into a clear cup decorated to look like a monster face.
  3. Add a scoop of Essentials Blend to your homemade frosting recipe to give your Halloween cupcakes a nutritional boost.
  4. Create a witch’s brew punch by adding Wild Algae Blend to your favorite fruit punch recipe.

Whether you plan to go trick-or-treating, compete in a costume contest, or enjoy some quiet time at home, we wish you a very happy and healthy Halloween!
